About the event
MOTORPSYCHO? YAY! (The press text they have given us is in Norwegian, how many of you speak Norwegian? We will do our best at translating it, we think it says something like):
"In 2021 into a year of Covid, we in Motorpsyho realized that all our projects and plans were canceled. No one could travel or cross any borders, people sat at home and hid, and everything called "music and culture" stopped existing. In the darkest times, we asked ourselves: Is this the end? Will we survive this? No shows, no income. So what better time to refurnish the rehearsal space, create a small studio, and finally try to catch those little tunes, those n o r m a l tunes, those songs that hadn't suited any of the more extravagant records we had made in recent years? Without much outside help, the three of us managed to record so much music over a two-month period that in the end we were unable to hear if any of it was good or if w should throw everything away and start over. We went completely deaf and couldn't hear the qualities in any of it, so we put the music away for a couple of weeks and thought about other things. When we returned to the material later, it turned out that the best stuff actually was much better than what we remembered: there was a definite vibe to things, we sensed a kind of common thread and there was something there... hmm... We were so pleasantly surprised that we felt we had to check with 'professionals' if we heard correctly. So we sent a selection of tunes to our favorite Trønder Swede, Reine Fiske in Stockholm and asked if he heard what we heard, and told him that that he had free rein to add, take away, cut, and paste and change what he wanted and - 'produce' this material - until he was satisfied and we could make a record out of it. Well, Reinisen took the bait and went for it! Along with him, he brought Fredrik Swahn (Dungen, Melody's Echo Chamber, The Amazing, etc) and they got to work. So - these guys are two of the architects behind what in modern psych environments is often called 'The Stockholm sound', and what they added to this material is, in our ears, exactly what it needed. It took its time, but the result has been...well, absolutely great! What they have contributed in terms of textures and aesthetic choices during the mixing process means that we can say with our hands on our hearts that this album is in many ways as much their merit as ours: it is simply difficult to exaggerate how important they have been for us to be able to share this record (which we know will be seen as a little gem in our catalog) with the world. We are very proud and super satisfied with the result, and enormously grateful to Reine and Fredrik for taking charge and turning the album into the little psychedelic treat it has become!!
